The Finding of the Joshua Tree

I wonder where this is. I've been to Joshua Tree twice for astronomy, but other than smiling at the name, never thought to actually seek out the tree from the album. It's a huge park--I wonder where this is, and if I was even anywhere near it.

Sad! I wonder why they "attacked" the tree...wikipedia is vague, and says it was "attacked by Maori protesters," but also says that the tree had been planted years earlier to commemorate the tree that had been there before and given the place its name...so what were they protesting? Stupid wikipedia.

At least the joshua tree died naturally...well, from erosion and falling down.

I understand now. I think, if feasible, it would have been more meaningful (and preferable) to attempt to take out the obelisk, rather than the poor tree, but I know that would've been much harder to do without hurting anyone or getting caught. Oh imperialiam, it knows no bounds.

Oh, and I don't have that cd (there are a LOT I don't have), but have a live version of 'One Tree Hill' and have read the story behind it, and I don't listen to it often because it makes me get a huge lump in my throat and depresses me for a while...it's powerful.
